Four brightly colored shells are examined. The spectator chooses one and hides a gem underneath. The other shells are placed around the spectator's shell in any order at all while the mentalist has his back turned away.

When the performer turns around, he is able to tell a few things about the spectator's life. As a dramatic ending, the mentalist specifically names the exact issue the spectator has in mind, and the very shell the gem is under.
